The American Federal Mobile Banking app is updated to permit fingerprint login on newer generation Apple products, including the iPhone 5s and later versions and the iPad Air 2 and Mini 3 and their later versions.
Touch ID is Apple’s biometric fingerprint authentication technology.
The feature is integrated into iOS devices, allowing users to use their Home button to unlock their mobile devices, as well as authorize purchases in the Apple digital media stores (ie iTune Store, the App Store, iBookstore) and authenticate Apple Pay online or in apps.
Fingerprint authentication functionality is not currently available for the American Federal Mobile Banking app for Android devices.
Fingerprint Identity Makes it Easy to Get into your Mobile Device
Banking, medical and other personal information is often stored on a mobile device. A passcode helps protect this important information and a user’s privacy. Unfortunately, some smartphone users do not use a passcode or dislike having to remember a passcode.
Touch ID is a seamless way to use your fingerprint as a passcode. Your fingerprint is always with you and unique to you. With a touch, you can automatically unlock your phone.
Touch ID does not store images of your fingerprint. It stores a mathematical representation of your fingerprint. The fingerprint data is encrypted and stored locally in a secure enclave of the chip in the device, rather than being stored remotely on Apple servers or in iCloud, making it difficult for external access.
Touch ID only allows five unsuccessful fingerprint match attempts before you must enter your passcode, and you cannot proceed until doing so.
You can increase the security on your phone by using the Touch ID sensor along with a complex, alphanumeric passcode. Having multiple methods of authentication makes it harder for someone to hack a user’s phone.
Many smartphone models come with a find and a wipe application that allow a user to get rid of their personal information, if someone steals their phone.
How to Enable Touch ID?
Enabling Touch ID on your Apple device requires setting changes on both the device and your American Federal Mobile Banking app.
Before you set up Touch ID, you will need to make a passcode for your device.
To activate Touch ID in the American Federal Mobile Banking app, log into the app and go to the Settings function, select Security Preferences and enable the Touch ID setting. Prompts will guide you through the setup and it can be toggled on or off at your convenience.
